Koppal district is home to many wildlife species especially in its unique habitats of scrub forests, rocky outcrops and grasslands and they need protection from both authorities and people in whatever form possible.

Koppal district has lately emerged as a region for lesser known species. Further, this district is a biodiversity hotspot and has a diverse array of wildlife be it mammals, reptiles or migratory birds.

Despite protection and conservation measures in Koppal district, many a wildlife species are on the verge of extinction. The district is known for its unique endemic species that has has adapted to both grasslands and semi-arid grasslands and rocky terrain.
